Aidan Davis on the beat with West Midlands police

Aidan Davis -- the youngster who captured the nation’s hearts with his amazing Britain’s Got Talent dance routines has been making his real dream come true.

Apart from wanting to be a breakdancer, Aidan has harboured another secret ambition….to be a West Midlands police officer.

And he got his chance when the 12-year-old schoolboy’s local force laid on a VIP visit for him and his brother.

The youngster, who judge Simon Cowell described as “super, super, super talented” has always wanted to be a professional dancer.

But the Selly Oak sensation admits that if he doesn’t make it, he’d love nothing better than to follow his cousin into the police force. Aidan said: “Of course I’d love to make it on the stage, but I need a back up plan and being a policeman would be almost as cool.”

Aidan’s big day began with a behind the scenes tour of the operations centre and custody unit at Steelhouse Lane in the city centre.

He was shown around the station by Det Chief Insp Sue Southern before being whisked off to the nearby Road Policing Unit to see the fast response traffic vehicles in action.

From there the karate black belt was whisked over to the Central Motorway Police Group for a ride down the M6 in a motorway police vehicle.

He also got a sneak preview of just how skilled officers have to be to police the West Midlands with a visit to the Firearms Unit and training range.

The day continued with a look inside a prison van and the VIP cars at the force’s Park Lane transport unit.

His exhausting schedule was completed with a look around the Dog Training Centre at Balsall Common, where he got to meet the German Shepherd pups who star in the force website’s Pup Idol series of videos.

A West Midlands police spokesperson, said: “Aidan is proof that being a police officer is a cool thing to do.

“Hopefully he has seen just how varied the job is and will consider us if he doesn’t make it as a dancer.

“Even if he does there is still room to join the force as a special, so hopefully he can follow his cousin and have the best of both worlds.”
