A bit of The Queen’s English?

At a time when the British guitar band seems like an endangered species, the desire for real emotion, energy and a voice for the disenfranchised youth is as strong as ever- welcome to the world, The Queen’s English! Hailing from London, Jamie, Lenny, Rich and Chris do not worship at the altar of the synth, TOWIE or David Guetta. They play energetic guitar music with a passion and energy seemingly long gone. Front man Jamie Delaney sites his favourite bands as The Jam, The Smiths, The Police and The Zombies. Throw in a bit of Blur, and you start to hear where The Queen’s English are coming from. Their songs have an ever present edge to them; Be they about female distraction at school (Exam Room), fidelity (Casey Chase Me Around) or dealing with unemployment and growing disillusionment (English Town), Jamie always has something relevant to say. The lyrics are delivered with a blistering intensity, and the band performs as if their lives depend on it. Oh, and they can write a hook! With only the strongest pop melodies, bass lines that pump like those of The Jam & The Stranglers, 1960′s Hammond and jangly, chorus-led guitars reminiscent of Marr, The Queen’s English encapsulate that same quality as the great UK guitar bands of previous generations.

The Queen’s English are best understood when on stage. They started off however with their packed out club night called ‘Hanging Around’ at The Camden Head spinning their favourite tunes (from New Wave to disco from the late 70′s and 80′s, in case you were wondering), and now playing a residency there to packed rooms. The spirit of their predecessors is strong, but The Queen’s English are firmly of a new era.
