Leanne Mitchell
The final of BBC1’s The Voice was one of the most dramatic wins of a reality competition. Leanne Mitchell truly was the dark horse whose beautiful emotion-drenched voice ended up overshadowing the early favourites. Her debut album for Decca Records is another astonishing leap. As good as she was on The Voice, this collection of songs is unbelievably silky and shimmering. Each one showcases a different aspect of Leanne, they vary from the gorgeously sad to the punchy strong. Her voice is flawless throughout, an amazing trajectory from when she first appeared in that nerve-wracking moment waiting for one of the coaches to turn around. The single If I Knew Then is a punchy ballad with a bluesy feel which she co-wrote. ‘He does things like wall climbing and sky diving. I am the opposite. At five feet vertigo kicks in. I met him when I was about 15.’ She is now 29. They got married a year and a half ago. He is her one true love. She has a book coming out, Finding My Voice, which is the story of winning The Voice. ‘It tells people how I got to where I am now. I’ve always wanted to be a singer, apart from a very brief phase when I was about 8 years old of wanting to be a lawyer because I thought they got paid a lot! This is the charming thing about Leanne, she doesn’t court fame or attention, she’s not needy, she’s in fact emotionally self-contained, but she’s learnt to like the idea that complete strangers like her. Which is just as well because there’s going to be many more of them. Industry Music Group is the exclusive live booking agent for Leanne Mitchell – call us now on 0203 0800 023. |
