Joe McElderry, the popular 18 year old from South Shields, was crowned the champion of The X Factor last night in front of 17 million viewers.
The singer beat off stiff competition from Olly Murs, and his cover version of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” is expected to be the final Christmas number one of the decade.
